MR. HAL WYATT, CM
HONOUREE FOR OUTSTANDING LIFETIME PHILANTHROPIST
Nominated By: Cantos Music Foundation
"You know, Hal, I could have done some of these things," said a colleague of Hal Wyatt's life works in philanthropy. "Yes you could have," replied Hal. "All you had to do was say, 'Yes'."
Described by many as a leader, motivator and visionary, Hal Wyatt, CM inspires people to participate. This year's Generosity of SpiritT Honouree for Outstanding Lifetime Philanthropist says, "Philanthropy is not just rich people giving to charities, its people giving of their time, knowledge and energy."
"I was the product of the depression and was surrounded by people in need," says Mr. Wyatt, "My father didn't make much, but had his priorities straight."
"My mother was generous to a fault. I was fortunate as a kid to have been given a hockey jersey from the NHL and in those days that was really rare. Mom gave this away to someone who came to the door and was cold."
"As kids we were exposed to helping. My exposure to 'giving of ourselves' was early in my life. I was mentored by my parents, teachers, and friends."
As a strong supporter of Cantos Music Foundation and Mount Royal College, Hal works tirelessly. "I've always appreciated his leadership, honesty, commitment, humour, governance, fundraising abilities, and the impact that he has had on this organization in so many ways," says Roger C. Jackson, chairman, Cantos Music Foundation.
"Mr. Wyatt is a man of tremendous decency, integrity, kindness, and vision," says Hunter M. Wight, Vice-President, External Relations, Mount Royal College.
